Do I need to take the Foundations course first?

You will either take the Foundations Course OR the Advanced Ketogenic Nutrition Course, not both. Modules 1-2 that make up the Foundations Course are included are INCLUDED in the Advanced Ketogenic Nutrition Course.

How long will it take to complete this course? 

We anticipate you will about 10 hours per module so the pace in which you complete the course will depend on how much time you can devote to your course.

You have 6 months to complete the Advanced Ketogenic Nutrition program.

You have 3 months to complete the Foundational Ketogenic Nutrition program.

Is there a cap for how many can sign up?

No, there is no enrollment cap.

Are there time restrictions on when I can sign up?

No, these courses are open enrollment and can be started at any time that is convenient for you.

Once you register, be mindful, that you will have 6 months to complete the Advanced Ketogenic Nutrition program OR 3 months to complete the Foundationational Ketogenic Nutrition program.

Do I need to be approved for the course?

Foundational Ketogenic Nutrition course: There are no pre-requisites for this course, through a background in sciences or biochemistry is preferred. This is open to anyone who is interested and registers for the course.

Can I earn CEs/ CMEs for the courses offered? 

The courses currently provide the following CEs:

Foundational Ketogenic Nutrition - 6 CEs

Advanced Ketogenic Nutrition - 18 CEs

Are there any continuing education requirements once I am certified? 

Yes. You will be required to complete 30 CEs every five years and re certify with the BCNS. Recertification fees also apply. See the Program Overview for more details.

I cannot fund the program all at once.  Are there any payment plan options?

Unfortunately, this option is not available. Once you begin the course you will have access to all of the material as it is self-paced. We have no way of giving partial access to the course. Therefore, there are no options other than to pay for the course in full.

I want to begin by taking the Foundation Course first. If I decide to then take the Advanced Ketogenic Nutrition Course later, can I be credited for the completion of Module 1-2 and be credited fo the money I have already paid?

Unfortunately, this option is not possible. We encourage all learners to carefully consider which option is ideal for them before registering for a course.

Why isn’t my user name or password working?  It says I am not a member, but I have paid for the course.

I didn’t get a welcome email after I enrolled in the course. Can you help me? 

Be sure to check your email spam/junk folder for an email from training@americannutritionassociation.org. If you cannot locate it, please email us at training@americannutritionassociation.org and a new Welcome Email will be sent to you.

What is required to become a Certified Ketogenic Nutrition Specialist (CKNS)? 

1) Candidates will be required to meet eligibility requirements, including successful completion of the Advanced Ketogenic Nutrition Course AND one of the following: 

- Certified Nutrition Specialist (CNS) in good standing OR

- Registered Dietician Nutritionist (RDN) credential or licensed/certified as a dietition/nutitionist (LDN/CDN) OR

- Doctoral degree in nutrition, dietetics, medicine or health-related field from a U.S. regionally accredited college or university, or its foreign equivalent OR

- Licensed Healthcare Professional in the U.S. with nutrition in the legal scope of practice including MD, DO, DC, ND, NP, RN, PharmD, Doctor of Nursing or foreign equivalency.

2) Passing score of the CKNS examination. (Offered 2 times per year, March and September.)

Do I get certified once I complete the Advanced Nutrition Ketogenic course?

Upon successful completion of the Advanced Ketogenic Nutrition course, you will be eligible to apply for the Certified Ketogenic Nutrition Specialist (CKNS) credential. Review the Program Overview for eligibility requirements for certification.
